What’s the Fountain of Youth?
Inspired by Uplifting Conversations
One of the greatest gifts this path has provided, the universe continues to “throw” amazing human beings my way.
Yesterday was one of those unexpected gifts.
Three people.
One expansive conversation.
Curiosity mixed with laughter, insights, and future possibilities.
Honest reflection without judgment.
Three different life stories intersecting for a brief moment, each offering a unique perspective while somehow arriving at a shared understanding.
It reminded me that some of life’s greatest lessons aren’t found in books. They’re found in conversations where everyone is willing to be present.
At one point, one of us jokingly asked the other,
“What’s your fountain of youth?”
This propelled further thought, leading to a beautiful meditation experience.
Like many meaningful conversations, like skin care and eyelid cream (I’m joking - topic not discussed 😂), they tend to have a residual effect on us. They tend to not end when we say goodbye.
So much of our conversation yesterday stayed with me, resurfacing last night into deeper layers.
As I sat in silence, one word continued to echo.
Gratitude.
A connection and characteristic that all of us have in common:
A practice grounded, centered, and connected in gratitude.
The conversations which lead to further exploration is what I love about this “work.”
We often don’t speak about that enough. The gifts that present themselves at the perfect times are so abundant in community conversations and collaborations.
Gratitude stirs the drink. I’m often in awe.
Gratitude… It’s The Fountain of Youth.
Not gratitude as a polite response, but gratitude as a way of living.
More Than Saying “Thank You”
Most of us understand gratitude intellectually. We know we’re “supposed” to be grateful. We keep journals, write affirmations, or remind ourselves to appreciate what we have.
Those are beautiful practices.
I believe gratitude asks something deeper of us.
It asks us to become people who naturally look for what is life-giving instead of what is lacking.
It invites us to notice beauty before our minds rush to find problems.
It encourages us to slow down long enough to experience life instead of simply managing it.
Gratitude isn’t denial.
It doesn’t pretend pain doesn’t exist.
Gratitude does all the things that free us from a heavy heart. It finds its “frequency-mating call.” Gratitude flows and returns to us like a vacuum. Healing, Clearing, Loving.
When we do the”work” and do the practices that keep us connected, we live from the eternal youth of our soul. We align ourselves with all kinds of people and opportunities we have quietly been asking for. We meet the people who help us grow. We can sometimes feel the transformation occurring in “real” time. Those are our reflection(s) of ourselves. Those, whom I was once intimidated by, are mirrors.
How freaking cool is that?!
Themes & Cycles and much more…
As I reflected on our conversation, another realization emerged.
Each of us carried a different energy into the room.
In some ways , each of us had blue Notes of ancient wisdom of creation, preservation, and transformation/destruction (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva combination).
Nothing living remains static.
So why should we?
Another theme: coming into our “own.” Leading ourselves and others with our special gifts. Sharing them in our own specific ways.
Gratitude and a bubbling energy of excitement began to arise within me.
Gratitude... It’s the Fountain of Youth.
For what is , what was, and what will be.
Who we were, where we came from, what we’ve learned along the way, and the beauty and abundance of opportunities before us now and in the future. I was/am filled with gratitude.
So here’s the invitation:
Sometimes we’re being invited to build.
Then, build it.
Sometimes we’re being called to protect. Protect it.
Sometimes the most loving thing we can do is release what no longer belongs.
Release it.
Gratitude allows us to not wobble (indecisive, preoccupation, procrastination).
So, Every heartfelt conversation we have,
Every act of forgiveness,
Every moment of genuine gratitude,
Each one clears away another layer.
Little by little, our natural light begins to shine again.
The Fountain of Youth?
Perhaps that’s what people notice when they say someone seems young.
Not the absence of wrinkles.
But the presence of light.
Gratitude is the battery charger for Light.
Gratitude is fantastic as a Daily Practice. I HIGHLY recommend; it’s a TNW favorite.
It’s also a choice. It’s also very hard to see clear sometimes. I recognize that as well, however , we are the ones responsible for our own mindset and how we move in the world.
‘A practice ‘Nudged’ in gratitude is cultivated through daily choices.
It’s found in choosing presence over distraction.
Compassion over judgment.
Curiosity over certainty.
Love over fear.
Wonder over cynicism.
When we try our best and recognize our humanness - this is the game-changer. Self- compassion is vital on days or moments when we fall into our own vices.
Gratitude has a remarkable way of returning us to beginner’s eyes.
It softens what life has hardened.
It reminds us that every sunrise is, in fact, a miracle we’ve simply become accustomed to.
The morning coffee.
The laughter of a child.
A meaningful conversation.
A gentle breeze.
A hug.
The sound of birds before the world fully wakes.
These aren’t little things.
Sounds a bit woo and flighty?? A bit theoretical?
These practices are the actuations of simplicity.
Slow down, life is quietly reminding us that it has never stopped offering beauty.
Have we been too busy to even notice?
Our nervous system dictates our ability to appreciate the gifts in life. Gratitude is an appreciation connector of our soul. When stressed or fearful, that voice is often too hard to hear.
Here’s what I’ve learned…
We don’t always stumble upon gratitude.
Sometimes we have to go looking for it.
Some days it comes effortlessly.
Other days it feels buried beneath stress, grief, disappointment, or uncertainty.
Those are often the days we need it most.
Gratitude isn’t passive.
It’s an intentional practice.
It’s choosing to gather moments of goodness before they disappear unnoticed.
One moment.
One breath.
One conversation.
One sunrise.
One act of kindness at a time.
It’s The Real Fountain of Youth
So if someone were to ask me today where the fountain of youth can be found, my answer would be simple.
It’s found in the way we meet each moment.
It’s found in caring for ourselves—not out of vanity, but out of reverence.
It’s found in relationships that encourage us to grow.
It’s found in the courage to release what no longer serves us.
It’s found in living with an open heart, finding love that tears the eyes.
And perhaps most of all…
It’s found in gratitude.
Because gratitude doesn’t stop time.
It simply keeps our hearts from growing old.
Today, I invite you to pause.
Take one slow breath.
Look around.
Find one ordinary thing that quietly deserves your appreciation.
You may discover it wasn’t ordinary after all.
You may have just found your own fountain of youth.
