Spirit Guides?

Are Spirit Guides Real?

A conversation about intuition, inner dialogue, and the mystery of what guides us.

For the last few days, spirit guides have been the focal point of several conversations in my work. It’s interesting how differently people arrive at this subject. Some people walk through the door incredibly confident about their conscious relationship with a guide or with spirit. They have names, images, sensations, messages, signs, and stories. They know exactly what they believe they are experiencing.

Others sit across from me and say, “I don’t know if I have any gifts.”

And yet, as we talk, they begin describing experiences that sound remarkably like intuition. A knowing they can’t explain. A feeling that arrives before the information does. A recurring symbol. A dream that seems to carry weight. A thought that feels different from their ordinary stream of thinking. Sometimes they simply haven’t given that experience a name.

So, that got me thinking about a question I asked myself tonight:

Are spirit guides real?

Well… that depends on who you ask.

Some people will hear the phrase spirit guide and roll their eyes. Others might recommend a good therapist. While some people incorporate their guides into nearly every aspect of their waking lives.

I’m not interested in convincing anyone that one of these perspectives is the correct one. What interests me is what happens underneath the name.

I think the better question instead of :

Are spirit guides real?

It’s,

“How do you experience guidance?”

Maybe We Need a Name?

Human beings are meaning-making creatures.

We take something mysterious, intangible, or difficult to understand and give it language.

We create a picture.

We create a metaphor.

We create a story.

We create a name.

Sometimes that name helps us access something we couldn’t previously articulate.

Spirit guide.

Higher self.

Intuition.

Ancestors.

Source.

God.

Divine intelligence.

Subconscious.

Inner wisdom.

Archetype.

Yes, the spiritual world has a whole playground…and they have bridges to one another, but don’t necessarily mean the same thing. They are different doors into a very similar room.

I don’t know, but this is how I witness through my spiritual lense. I’m a Libra…I try to see all sides.

Some see things much differently, and would explain it differently…and this is our uniqueness of self. Spirit guides, in whatever form, help us see the Higher Self…and that, I guess is the goal.

And as of late, I’m increasingly more comfortable saying that. I’m doing some solar plexus work!😉

Shouldnet spiritual exploration not require us to turn mystery into certainty? I have often fallen into these potholes myself, always to be humbled into a new beginning.

Inner or Outer?

This is where the conversation becomes particularly interesting. A further look…

What if something can feel like it comes from within us while simultaneously feeling like it comes from somewhere beyond us?

We often want to separate the two.

Is it me?

Is it spirit?

Is it intuition?

Is it imagination?

Is it something outside of me?

Maybe consciousness isn’t quite that tidy.

Maybe we receive information from all sources that we have access to in the moment. It can come through our bodies, nervous systems, memories, emotions, experiences, senses, dreams, intuition, and imagination.

Did I forget the spirit guides again?

Well, some people experience that information as an external spiritual presence. While others experience exactly the same kind of phenomenon as an internal knowing.

Both experiences can be meaningful without requiring us to declare one objectively true.

Spirituality becomes so much healthier when we can remain curious without dealing in the absolutes or the mountain talk preachers. I’ve been humbled here again as well. Appreciation, kindness, curiosity and love is a beautiful sweet spot for my spiritual lens. I practice patience, compassion and simplicity as a daily reminder to remain humble and confident in my BEing. This provides my practice to see beyond the illusion of the unhealed self.

Not Every Voice Is Guidance

This is one of the most important pieces of this conversation. Not everything we experience internally is wisdom or comes from a higher source. Sometimes we’re afraid. Sometimes we’re projecting. Sometimes we’re desperately trying to know something because uncertainty feels unbearable. Sometimes our unhealed wounds are speaking. Sometimes the ego is attempting to protect us. And, sometimes anxiety can be incredibly convincing.

So what is your “voice” saying?

How does it feel?

There is a difference between intuition and fear.

The difference between…

“I need to know” vs “I know.”

The difference between…

“Something terrible is going to happen unless I do this” and “Something feels quietly important here.”

There is a difference between chasing signs and simply noticing patterns.

There is a difference between fear demanding an answer and intuition offering information.

For me, one of the greatest discernment tools is the quality of the communication. Authentic spiritual exploration should not require you to live in terror. It shouldn’t feel threatening. It shouldn’t make you feel pressured, superior, chosen, doomed, or dependent. It shouldn’t tell you that you must surrender your judgment.

It shouldn’t replace your agency.

What Does Guidance Feel Like?

For me, the language I return to is love.

Not necessarily a dramatic experience. Not lightning. Not a booming voice. Not an elaborate vision. Sometimes guidance is extraordinarily quiet.

It can feel like:

Love.

Clarity.

Compassion.

A deep knowing.

A softening.

A sense of truth without the need to force it.

It doesn’t necessarily mean the message will be easy.

Love can tell us something we don’t want to hear, but there is often a sense of groundedness underneath it. The message doesn’t need to scream. It doesn’t need to frighten you into obedience. It doesn’t need to prove itself.

Sometimes it simply sits there.

And you notice. That’s it.

The World Within Us

I write frequently about the enormous world that exists within us—the world we often move through our entire lives without fully exploring.

Breath.

Body.

Emotion.

Memory.

Belief.

Sensation.

Dreams.

Intuition.

Presence.

Stillness.

Awareness.

And… spiritual connection.

This is one reason I don’t think you need to believe in spirit guides to benefit from spiritual exploration.

You don’t have to see a guide.

You don’t have to hear a guide.

You don’t have to name a guide.

You don’t have to believe that guides exist at all.

You can simply become more familiar with yourself.

So, when we become quiet enough to hear ourselves, something unexpected begins to emerge.

A knowing.

A connection.

A pattern.

A sense of direction.

A feeling that has been waiting beneath the noise.

So, here we are full circle - spirit guides.

Full confession, I connect with a whole team on the daily.

Call it intuition.

Call it prayer.

Call it the subconscious.

Does it really matter?

The experience comes first. The name comes second.

Build The Muscle of Intuition, Build The Connection

I don’t believe intuition is something reserved for a select group of spiritually gifted people.

I believe our capacity to listen can be cultivated.

Just like breath.

Just like meditation.

Just like awareness.

Just like Reiki.

We can practice noticing.

What happens in your body when something feels true?

How does uncertainty feel compared with knowing?

What does fear sound like?

What does your intuition sound like?

What symbols repeatedly appear?

What happens when you stop chasing an answer?

What changes when you create enough stillness to receive rather than demand?

These are not questions that need immediate answers.

They’re practices, which require time.

So… Are Spirit Guides Real?

Maybe.

Maybe not in the way we imagine them.

Maybe they are external spiritual beings.

Maybe they are expressions of consciousness.

Maybe they are archetypes through which we access wisdom.

Maybe they are the language our deeper mind uses to communicate with us.

Maybe there are things about consciousness and existence that we simply don’t understand yet.

And maybe that’s okay.

I don’t need to reduce the mystery in order to respect it.

If you believe in spirit guides, you are welcome here.

If you don’t, you are welcome here.

If you are curious but skeptical, you’re welcome here.

If you’ve had an experience that you can’t explain, you’re welcome here.

And if you’ve been frightened by an experience and never wanted to explore it again, you’re welcome here too.

Because the goal isn’t to convince you to see something.

The goal is to help you come home to yourself.

A Door Back to Yourself

At The Nature Within LLC, spiritual exploration isn’t about giving away your power to something outside of you.

It’s about developing your capacity to recognize what is happening within you.

Through Spiritual Mentorship, we can explore intuition, spiritual experiences, discernment, symbolism, energetic awareness, and the questions that don’t always have simple answers.

Through Reiki, we create space for stillness, energetic awareness, relaxation, and connection.

Through Breathwork, we use the breath as a powerful doorway into the nervous system, body, emotion, and present-moment awareness.

Through Meditation, we practice becoming quiet enough to notice what is beneath the noise.

Sometimes the most profound spiritual practice is simply learning to sit with yourself without needing an immediate answer.

Whether you speak fully through spirit guides—or not at all—you are welcome in the work of The Nature Within. Our services help you connect back to the Self. To help you remember.

Spiritual mentorship is an offering for those wanting this relationship. We already have a relationship with something within you.

The work is learning how to listen, What we discover, is often a realization that we were never disconnected from own wisdom as we thought.

Are spirit guides real?

I don’t know, but this question may open a door for some. And, that’s all a doorway is supposed to do.

I invite you to step through.

I’ll be waiting.
