The Joy Jar

The Joy Jar: A Gentle Igniter

Yesterday, during Laura Ramirez, LLC’s Small Business Success Group, we were invited into a simple yet powerful practice: creating a joy jar.

An idea to intentionally fill our jars with reminders of what brings us joy—moments, feelings, experiences, and gratitudes that are alive in our present moment. Not goals to chase or pressures to resolve, but what already exists and nourishes us now. The practice isn’t just about naming joy—it’s about feeling it internally and witnessing how it naturally radiates outward into our work, our relationships, and the culture within our communities.

Joy, when acknowledged, becomes a gentle igniter all on its own. We oxygenate and pollinate the seeds by the intention alone.

It doesn’t need force or effort. It doesn’t demand constant attention. It simply is. And that frequency has a way of touching others—especially those who may be navigating heavier, lower vibrational emotional states. Joy doesn’t fix or bypass struggle; it offers a soft place to land. It reminds us of possibility.

As we began with our very first reminder of joy, it became clear that this practice is a way to reconnect with what’s important—rather than staying tethered to the demands, expectations, and pressures that daily life can place on us. It’s a grounding ritual. A return.

For me, this exercise felt like a personal agreement—a recommitment to my mantra this year - “All Things Healing.”

Not as a concept, but as a boundary of sorts. One that shows up in all of my relationships, my experiences, and the conscious way I am moving through this year.

As we each shared and connected to what brings us joy and gratitude, I found myself reflecting more deeply after the meeting. I realized that I can’t always be surrounded by like-minded people—those who trust one another, celebrate together, value cooperation, communicate effectively, and collaborate with whole-hearted kindness. That environment is a gift, not a constant. This has become a special group - a soul-family.

What is constant, though, is the agreement I make with myself.

This year, I am choosing to seek joy intentionally, rather than unconsciously feeding internal stories that belong to my shadow.

So, how do I show up in my family environment, my work, and all of my other experiences?

This can be hard for me to identify at times, often because it requires me to identify with my light.

My light, humor, and playfulness naturally invite others in, creating a space where creativity flows freely and honest connection is welcomed. Through this genuine connection, I believe this helps unite a group, turning individual energy into collective inspiration. Laughter and openness become the threads that weave people together, fostering collaboration, trust, and a shared sense of joy that uplifts everyone present.

Our Joy Jars are reminders in life. intentional joy isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence, quite possibly the greatest gift you can give another soul. Its about recognizing how we show up in our family, work, and social environments. It’s about noticing how we reflect one another, and how sometimes, the triggers we feel are gateways to greater understanding. When we focus on joy, patience, and compassion, we simplify life. We become content with exactly where we are, and that contentment is often filled with connection, laughter, and genuine human energy.

The beauty of this practice is its contagiousness. The energy you cultivate in your jar—whether you are the initiator, the seeker, or the last one picked on a team—joy spreads to everyone around you. It becomes a vibrational light: the gold-standard. We become the golden star, the north-facing beacon, inviting fun, collaboration, and creativity. By consistently tending to our jars of joy, we nourish not only ourselves but our communities as well.

In the end, the jar is more than paper and a container—it’s a practice in living intentionally. Each note added is a seed, each meeting a watering, and together they create a reservoir of joy that nourishes everyone who touches it. Start your jar, meet yourself halfway, and allow the energy to expand. Joy is always available—it just needs your intentionality to flourish.
